Altered Books

I love collage and altered books are fabulous--my problem? I usually like to make my own book from scratch, like my 'City Book' and 'Onion Dome Book' and the 'Amazingly Super Dooper Super Secret 1/2 a Submarine Book', all tacky yet unrefined. I have many that I did start, usually for lengthy 'Birthday Cards' or something...those I use old kids books ''cause the pages are thick.
City Book below.
I will see if my son can take pics of the Greeneville Submarine book--some pics might have to be blacked out!

Strange Dolls, too.

There is a really awesome site I came across called Strangedolls.net, but I have created some bizarre creatures also. A made a bird that looked like a fugly baby macaw and gave it to a friend along with the bird posted below. I have a few pale dolls that seem to glow a wan translucent gayness, like a limp-wristed vampire. Don't know what to call the black-haired creature below. I have several dredlocks in a baggie and can't wait to make one with REAL HAIR!

The Fine Art of Furniture

I saw a man disposing of an old dresser with his trash, so naturally I had to see if it were 'free'. I couldn't leave it abandoned by the roadside, so we put it in my truck and drove it home. I immediately sprayed it flat gray and started brushing on my favorite hospital green with random white, brown, and black streaked in. Throw some watered-down 'nasty' at it and let it all dribble and soon you'll have my special "SLUMSIDE HOTEL" color...where dead men lost their bones...[always throw in an Eliot line whenever possible!]
I messed around on my front porch with several of these intriguing pieces of crap and soon I had someone ask if 'my antique dollhouse' was for sale! HA HA HA! NO! I love my
Slumside Apartment building and my Hostel, and the crummy Haliewa building, and my little Waialua store, and my KC Uptown Theatre/Heavy Metal arena...and the smaller, creepier Ed Gein Toolshed, and the Serial Killer Jail. They are so much fun...if you scroll down, you will see the Apt and Jail. I will try to get more pics posted soon, but really need to relearn how to do thumbnails, etc and how to make this site look better soon!
OOOhhh...the Serial Killer Jail will actually play music by itself in the middle of the night...now doesn't that send a chill up your spine!?

Trash Wall Relics

I created 2 little wall relics from a wooden box I broke in two--the top half had gold/red diamonds and now an old Madonna...I call it "RED PLANET". The tiny collage phrase says "I will show you fear in a handful of dust." I also used some old buttons, sequins, and bud beer caps smashed flat. I like her!
The bottom 1/2 of the box has Mary of Guadalupe surrounded by iridescent blue sequins and beads, some blue and sparkle gold paint, shell beads and quotes: "Lady, Three white leopards sat under a juniper tree in the cool of the day, having fed to satiety on my legs my heart my liver and that which had been contained in the hollow round of my skull." I like it too! If you move around this page, you should see them, but not at a large size yet.
Yeah Collage Art!

Art and Trash

As I was wandering by the childhood dumpsite over at Grandma's [down by the creek], I just had to stuff 3 rusty can lids in my back pocket. Come on now...they were nicely circular, textured crusty orange/brown-- how could I NOT bring them home?
I bent one back and forth 'til it split and now I shall form a bird.... an old bored board, a beer cap, some tea-stained gauze: a lovely little creature that I have named "Celestial Baby Waible Bird" for my daughter.
TRASH is ART!
